Strengthening institutional resiliency and accountability to accelerate the control of the HIV/TB epidemic across Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara.

Overview

SANHDEF is implementing Health Systems Strengthening (HSS) activities as a Sub-grantee under the USAID-funded Accelerating Control of the HIV Epidemic in Nigeria (ACE) Cluster 3 project.

This initiative focuses on Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara states, aiming to enhance the resiliency, responsiveness, and accountability of health structures. By strengthening these systems, SANHDEF contributes significantly to combating the HIV/TB epidemic in Northern Nigeria.

Strategic Strategy
Project Goal

To reduce HIV transmission in high-risk communities through case identification, community-based ARV refills, viral load sample collection, and mentor-led testing to prevent vertical transmission.

Core Objectives

  • To enhance health systems strengthening.

What We Delivered

  • Conducted OCA and development of ISP for State PHC Agencies (Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara).

  • Conducted Mentoring visits for technical Support on Institutional Strengthening Plans.

  • Facilitated cohort trainings on mental health resilience for the health workforce.

  • Facilitated deployment of Government Performance Index (GPI/OPI) tools.

  • Conducted comprehensive health workforce assessments.

  • Established and strengthened Quality Improvement (QI) interventions at LGA levels.

  • Facilitated the resuscitation and reactivation of Ward Development Committees (WDCs).

  • Facilitated the development of state-level Annual Operational Plans (AOP).

  • Conducted facility-level capacity assessments for BHCPF implementation transitioning to training curriculums.
